STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE – REPAIR AND MAINTENANCE OF SWITCH AND SOCKET

OBJECTIVE:

To establish a procedure for repair and maintenance of switch and socket.

 

POLICY:

The repair and maintenance of switch and socket shall be carried out in safe, smooth, trouble free without affecting the occupants with reduced down time.

 

RESPONSIBILITY:

 

Shift Engineer

 

Work safety

·        Put OFF the supply where you want to carry out the work.

·        Make sure LOTO device should applied to energy source.

·        Ensure you are standing on an insulating rubber mat/ Electrically insulated surface.

·        Make sure all PPE’s are equipped while working.

·        Have proper tools like insulated plier, test lamp, multimeter, wire stripper, and fuse puller.

·        Ensure conductor is dead before handling it.

·        At any job motto should be safety first.

·        In case of any major problem, inform the Facility Manager immediately.

 

PROCEDURE:

 

·        Make sure that line are discharged.

·        Remove the outlet cover plate.

·        Find the two screws, one at the top and one at the bottom. These hold the switch/outlet to the electrical box. Remove these two screws and gently pull the switch or outlet out.

·        Remove the wires connected to faulty switch/socket.

·        Make sure the replacement unit should be same voltage and current rating.

·        Make sure that the proper lugs should present on each wire terminals.

·        Connect wires to the switch/socket as per standard connections. (Phase, Neutral and Earthing)

·        Check the continuity for if there is any wrong connection.

·        Push the electrical outlet back into the electric box.

·        Screw the electrical outlet back into the box.

·        Install the outlet cover plate.

·        Check again the continuity for if there is any wrong connection available.

·        Switch on the main power supply.

·        Check voltage levels to each socket.

·        After successful installations collect all tools and replaced material.

 

 

 

REVISION GUIDE:

Any change in the systems will need a change in the SOP.
